Configure time sync on Windows Computers

A bunch of commands to set various Windows Time Sync options

Set internet time sync

  • On AD Domain Controller with PDC Emulator role get time from Internet
 w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:au.pool.ntp.org /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
  • If you’ve just┬ádemoted the PDC Emulator AD Domain Controller and need to set the old one to sync from the domain again as a normal DC
net stop w32Time
w32tm /unregister
w32tm /register 
net start w32time
w32tm /resync
  • For DMZ workgroup computers or Virtual Host machines get time from Internet
 w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:au.pool.ntp.org /syncfromflags:manual /update
  • For domain members get time from Domain
 w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update
  • Check current status
 w32tm /query /status [/verbose]
  • Force time sync
 w32tm /resync
  • Compare time difference with another computer in real-time
 w32tm /stripchart /computer:[remote computer]
